A cheating wife whose husband almost died when she orchestrated his brutal street stabbing is a free woman.
Vicky Soteriou was quietly released from prison in recent months after serving a decade in a maximum security jail for plotting to kill her husband Chris.
The Herald Sun has been told Mr Soteriou, who almost died in a 2010 ambush in Fitzroy, opposed his ex-wife’s parole.
It is believed 54-year-old Mrs Soteriou is living under a range of restrictions imposed by authorities as part of her release conditions.
Sources say her long stay at the Dame Phyllis Frost Correctional Centre had been largely incident free.
Much of her prerelease period was spent trying to stay trim by walking the grounds of the Deer Park jail.
Mrs Soteriou, a mother-of-three, was found guilty 11 years ago over the murder conspiracy and sentenced to 12 years in prison with a minimum of nine.
She had organised a 44th birthday dinner for Mr Soteriou but it was a trap, and afterwards, he was attacked and had his throat slit by her lover, Ari Dimitrakis.
Mrs Soteriou is believed to be living a quiet life in Melbourne’s northern suburbs with family.
Mr Soteriou declined to comment but has previously told the Herald Sun he had moved on from the violent stabbing which left him critically injured.
“You never forget what happened but you have to forgive and move on,” Mr Soteriou said.
“Life is a journey with its ups and downs. I sunk to the lowest level but I have risen again and life is now beautiful — new partner, new lifestyle.
“We have a good life now. After all the chaos and trauma, we are happy.”
Sources said Mr Soteriou had been notified by the parole board two weeks in advance of his former wife’s release, in line with regulations.
He spent weeks in an induced coma after visiting a restaurant in January, 2010, with his wife as Dimitrakis lay in wait.
Mrs Soteriou had provided the self-employed chauffeur with the weapon he used to slash her husband’s throat and stab him six times.
Mr Soteriou only survived through the swift actions of two off-duty doctors who stemmed the bleeding until emergency help arrived.
Dimitrakis was jailed for seven years for the plot, which Victorian Supreme Court Justice Paul Coghlan labelled as “callous, cold-blooded and well-planned”.
