Police are probing the allegations of inappropriate touching by former Richmond player Ty Zantuck at an alcohol-fuelled party.

Bayside Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team confirmed that “detectives are investigating after a report of a sexual assault which occurred on 29 July.

“It’s alleged a 41-year-old man inappropriately touched a 17-year-old female at a gathering at a residence in the south eastern suburbs,” the police statement said.

Mr Zantuck was the assistant coach for the first boys’ football team at prestigious Haileybury College.

Concerns were raised that Mr Zantuck attended the impromptu after-match party with students and parents, a private event celebrating the boys’ win over Caulfield Grammar.

The party was where the touching was alleged to have occurred.

Mr Zantuck has been stood down by the school, in light of the complaint.

He did not respond to the Herald Sun’s inquiries and was not present at the team’s match at Geelong College.

The party, which was attended by the first football team players, family members, coaches and parents, led to six Haileybury staff members being disciplined by the school for socialising with students.

Many of the students at the party were underage.

The team’s head coach, Matthew Lloyd, who attended for an hour and a half, was also stood down for a few days over his presence at the party, but returned to coaching duties this weekend.

A statement from Haileybury issued on Friday said the school “was made aware that on Saturday night, after the APS football game, a group of parents organised an impromptu celebratory gathering with students.

“It was with great disappointment that the school learnt that several members of staff attended this event,” it said.

“The school has moved quickly to discipline those staff members involved and to ensure they uphold their professional obligations concerning social gatherings with parents and students.

We are continuing our inquiries and will take further action if necessary,” the statement said.

Mr Lloyd earlier in the week confirmed the school boys’ win was “one of the greatest days” of his careers.

The game was a thrilling comeback for the Haileybury first boys’ team, which saw them edging out Caulfield Grammar to clinch the win in the final quarter.

It was the first win for Lloyd’s team since 2018, and was watched by hundreds at the ground on the day, and much celebrated on social media.

The Haileybury “Bloods” team kicked three goals in the last quarter to win the match and coveted premiership, with a final score of 57 versus 49. The team was regarded as the strongest team in the season.

Students from Haileybury posted clips from the party on social media, but have been told to remove them by the school.

Haileybury College declined to comment.
