Two inmates have been stabbed in an outbreak of violence at the state’s most secure prison.

The two victims were stabbed in the lower body on Wednesday at 2.30pm inside Barwon Prison, near Geelong.

Emergency services were at the scene on Tuesday evening.

A fight between three men broke out at the prison at 2.30pm, police said.

Two of them, aged in their 20s, were taken to hospital with stab wounds.

They are in a stable condition.

A third man suffered minor injuries and was not transported.

A Department of Justice and Community Safety spokesperson said: “The safety and security of our staff and people in custody is our priority – any act of violence is treated seriously and referred to Victoria Police.”

The incident follows the bashing of an officer by a prisoner last week.

Police are investigating allegations that former top boxer Jamie Bogovic carried out the attack.
