Two teenage boys accused of murdering Doncaster doctor Ash Gordon have fronted court for the first time.

Homicide detectives earlier charged the two 16-year-olds with murder, aggravated burglary and theft after they allegedly stabbed 33-year-old GP Ash Gordon to death when he confronted them as they broke into his home on Saturday morning.

Police allege Dr Gordon confronted the teens on nearby Eildon St where a fight unfolded and Dr Gordon died.

The boys were flanked by custody officers as they were brought into the dock of a children’s court on Thursday.

Wearing a blue jumper with the hood up, one of the boys had grazes on his face while his co-accused wore a white hoodie jumper.

The pair showed little emotion and stared straight ahead during the brief administrative hearing.

The pair also entered Mr Gordon’s home with “intent to steal” and while knowing a person was present, charge sheets state.

Charge sheets allege the boys stole a pair of Nike Air Force shoes, two gaming computers, headphones and a Louis Vuitton wallet containing bank cards and ID and the keys for a Mitsubishi Triton.

The court heard one of the teens refused to allow his parents into his police interview and investigators had been unable to contact the parents of the other boy.

It was also the first time in custody for one of the teens.

The magistrate granted 12 weeks for a brief of evidence to be prepared — six weeks longer than the usual allocation — to allow time for CCTV and mobile phone analysis.

Prosecutors told the court police may also apply for forensic and DNA samples.

The boys were remanded in custody and will reappear in court on February 8.

Dr Gordon’s family said they were outraged that such young assailants were allegedly involved in his death.

Dr Gordon’s sister Natalie Gordon said the family was angered by how violent they had allegedly become at such a young age.

“We’re still absolutely heartbroken and devastated, but there was a sense of relief when the police let us know (of the charges) because we expected this to never get solved or to take months,” she told the Herald Sun.

Ms Gordon said despite the shock of learning that her brother’s alleged killers were teenagers, the family was relieved by the major breakthrough in the investigation after the alleged killers went on the run for several days.

“The police have been fantastic. I hope no one ever has to deal with them (police) in this sort of situation, but from this experience, I just can’t fault them,” she said.

“I would publicly love to thank them for working so hard and giving up their family time and bringing us some answers so early on.”

Serious Crime Division Superintendent Janet Stevenson said police would offer additional support to Dr Gordon’s family.

“We know that Ash’s family and loved ones are grieving. This arrest will not take away the tragedy of this dreadful situation, but we hope that it will alleviate some of their distress,” she said

“Ash was a much-loved, valued member of our community, and we are all trying to make sense of what has occurred.

Ms Stevenson said Dr Gordon’s death created fear in the community as his family continued to grieve.

“Since this incident occurred on Saturday, the Homicide Squad investigators have worked tirelessly with our colleagues in the region and specialist units.

“This type of incident can create fear and uncertainty. We want our community to feel safe in their homes and to that end, Victoria Police will do continue to do everything in our power to make this a reality.”

Dr Gordon’s devastated girlfriend, Dakota Nagel, paid tribute to her partner, saying he “died a hero”.

“We wish for Ash to be remembered for the loving kind person he was and the impact of good he made on the world,” Ms Nagel said.

“He died a hero ... justice will be served for Ash and his loved ones.”
