Ash Gordon’s girlfriend says he ‘died a hero’ after chasing armed thieves

The Doncaster doctor who was killed after chasing armed thieves from his home has been remembered as a “hero” by his heartbroken partner.

The devastated girlfriend of a “humble and brave” young doctor who was stabbed to death after a violent home invasion has broken her silence, saying her partner “died a hero”.

Speaking exclusively to the Herald Sun, Dakota Nagel said her boyfriend, Ash Gordon, should be remembered for the positive impact he had on everyone he knew, including his patients.

“We wish for Ash to be remembered for the loving kind person he was and the impact of good he made on the world,” Ms Nagel said.

“He died a hero and the people responsible will be held accountable, and justice will be served for Ash and his loved ones.”

Dr Gordon, 33, was brutally stabbed to death early on Saturday morning after confronting a group of knife-wielding intruders at his Doncaster home.

The thieves made off with shoes and a laptop before Dr Gordon chased them away from his Sargent St house in his car.

A confrontation unfolded nearby on Eildon St, where an assailant stabbed Dr Gordon repeatedly, leaving him to die near his car.

The attackers have remained on the run since Dr Gordon’s death, which comes just one year after Ms Nagel suffered her own terrifying ordeal.

Ms Nagel made headlines across the state in January last year when she vanished for a week from the same Doncaster property where Dr Gordon lived after partying with friends, sparking a major police search.

A member of the public found Ms Nagel after her loved ones pleaded for help locating her.

The 25-year-old hairdresser slammed speculation that her disappearance was connected with Dr Gordon’s death.

“As far as we are concerned, the individuals involved in my disappearance were not involved in Ash’s tragic death, and there is no link between the two,” she said.

“Please during this time of grieving be mindful of speculating as it causes more harm and heartache than good.

“We would like people to respect our right to privacy.”

The alleged attackers remain on the run and no arrests have been made, days after Dr Gordon’s family pleaded for answers over who was responsible for his death.

“Hand yourself in. It’s an absolute disgrace to mankind to do something to someone so, so wonderful and the world is a worse place now because he’s been taken from us. Not only us, but the wider community,” Dr Gordon’s sister Natalie Gordon said.

“He was the absolute apple of our family’s eye. Every single one of us was so proud of him and everything he had achieved in his life, so we are really struggling to lose him so tragically.”

Dr Gordon’s neighbours had reported a string of “concerning” incidents in the weeks before his death.

Just hours before the botched home invasion, a nearby property was reportedly the scene of a wild party.

Police attended a nearby property on Tuesday where they were seen collecting bags of evidence.

Neighbours said groups of people who appeared to be young in appearance had gathered in the street on several occasions.

Another neighbour had her car stolen from inside her garage last week, while thieves ransacked the home of an elderly couple in November.

The Herald Sun is not suggesting these incidents are related to Dr Gordon’s death.

Investigations into his death are ongoing.
