Shocking carjacking in Langwarrin

A gang of teenage thugs who were filmed committing an alleged carjacking before allegedly punching the victim and running him over have been charged by police.

Disturbing CCTV footage captured the moment one of the teenagers pounced on an innocent UberEats driver and his car as he delivered food to a home on Romsey Place in Langwarrin about 1.45pm Thursday.

The innocent driver, a 33-year-old man, then rushed back to his car and tried to stop the teenager from driving off.

Another one of the assailants, who was already in an allegedly stolen dual cab ute, then ran at the man and hit him from behind.

The victim was knocked to the ground as the offender flees back to the stolen ute as the first teenager attempts to drive off in the victim’s Toyota Camry.

The victim is then dragged several metres down the quiet street before he is heard screaming in pain.

Witness Damian, who had ordered the takeaway for lunch, said the victim’s scream was horrifying.

“You could see the victim was reaching into the window to try and get the bloke out,” he told the Herald Sun.

“I then ran in to get my phone (to call police) and in that 10 seconds, another bloke jumped out of the dual cab and king hit him from behind.

“He hit the deck and then I saw both cars driving off and he was still hanging out of the white car as it drove off, he was dragged along and I just heard a scream.

“We then picked him up around the corner and he had a knife held to him.”

Further down on Romsey Place, witness Mark Trewin rushed outside after hearing the commotion and the man’s painful scream.

Mr Trewin, who took Friday off work as he was too mentally scarred, said the victim was run over “like a speed hump”.

“Two cars came screaming around the corner (and) I see the bloke getting dragged under the car, he actually had his hands in the car,” he said.

“He let go and went under the car and it made these thuds, just like going over a speed hump.

“We’ve sat him down on the nature strip and just waited with him until the ambulance and the coppers come.”

The victim’s back was covered in cuts and grazes and he was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The same crew are then accused of dumping one of the stolen cars on Paddington Rd in Oakleigh before allegedly launching another violent and brutal day daylight attack.

They are accused of storming into the Oakleigh home of an elderly couple, aged in their 70s and 80s, later that afternoon while demanding they hand over more car keys.

The alleged victims say they have struggled to sleep since the three teenagers started banging on their front door on Thursday afternoon.

Spiros Zois, 82, and his 74-year-old wife, Angela, were sitting at their Carlisle Crescent home listening to the radio when they heard the commotion at the front door.

Mr Zois said the group, armed with batons, ran through the front door and began searching their brick home for car keys.

He said they searched all rooms of the house but ultimately left empty handed before they were swiftly arrested.

Mr Zois, who was on Friday in good spirits, suffered a back injury from a fall during the chaos.

He will see a doctor on Monday to treat his sore back.

“I asked them what they wanted and they said keys to the car,” he told the Herald Sun.

“I said the car is not mine, it is my son’s, but then they went through the bedroom.

“(My wife) is still not sleeping in the night but they didn’t touch us.

“It happened very quick.”

The victim said it was the first time he’d run into trouble in more than 50 years in his Oakleigh home.

He said he and his wife, who had been sipping coffee in the kitchen, stood back and stayed out of the way.

CCTV footage seen by the Herald Sun showed a group of teenagers jump the rear fence of the property moments before the attack.

They were seen scaling a garden shed in the backyard, accessing the fence via the railway line.

Two 17-year-old boys have been charged with aggravated home invasion and aggravated carjacking.

The pair is due to front a children’s court on Friday afternoon.

Another 17-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated home invasion and aggravated carjacking.

He was, as of Friday afternoon, in hospital under police guard.

Each of the teens were on bail at the time of the violent alleged crime spree.

The trio is facing a total of 39 offences including stealing three cars from multiple victims, stealing a knife from an outdoor supplies store as well as several assaults.

Charge sheets released from a childrens court allege the teens stole a LDV T60 ute in Frankston and a Toyota Rav 4 and Toyota Camry in Langwarrin on Thursday.

It’s alleged two of the boys also stole a knife and knife sharpener from Anaconda in Frankston the same day.

Other charges faced by the teens include unlawful assault by kicking, assault without lawful excuse, armed trespass and failure to render assistance to the victim whose car was stolen in Langwarrin.

It’s alleged the victim clung to the outside of his car as it took off, placing him at risk of death or serious injury.

Two of the accused teens appeared in the dock on Friday wearing white forensic suits, whispering with one another before being separated by custody officers.

The court heard both of the boys were withdrawing from drugs.

One expressed an intention to self-harm following his arrest and the other requested antipsychotic medication be provided to him in custody.

The third co-accused did not appear in court.

On Friday he remained at Dandenong Hospital under police guard and is expected to undergo surgery on a lacerated arm.

The trio will reappear in court on August 1.
