Three Irish men have been arrested after allegedly orchestrating more than 60 home burglaries across Melbourne, accused of stealing more than $1m of property.
The three Irish nationals, aged 19, 24 and 25, were arrested on Thursday morning at the Holiday Inn at Melbourne Airport.
They are accused of orchestrating a sophisticated crime spree, working as a syndicate to steal more than $1m worth of jewels, cash and designer handbags from wealthy homes across Melbourne.
The trio are allegedly responsible for more than 60 home burglaries across Blackburn, Doncaster, Narre Warren, Hampton Park Narre Warren and Templestowe since January.
The majority of thefts allegedly happened while the occupants were away from their homes, and after breaking in, the trio allegedly used a series of cleaning products to cover their tracks.
Police allege the trio are part of a broader network of fly in/fly out burglars, working to import stolen goods overseas.
Investigations continue into whether the groups are linked to other unsolved burglaries throughout Melbourne.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brendon Pollock said detectives are continuing to target organised crime groups in Victoria.
“Your home should be your sanctuary, Victoria Police simply will not stand for anyone who seeks to enter someone else’s home and takes what’s not theirs,” he said.
“We will continue to target serious and organised crime groups, no matter where they’re from.”
The men have been charged with multiple offences including counts of aggravated home invasion, aggravated burglary, burglary, and theft from motor vehicle.
They will face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
