A third man has been charged with murder over the violent double shooting on the Mornington Peninsula late last year.
Homicide squad detectives on Saturday charged a third Narre Warren man over the shooting deaths of Charlyze Hayter and Jackson Gilmour at Rye on December 2.
Police believe Ms Hayter, 19, gained access to the home Mr Gilmour was staying at before a violent altercation ensued and Ms Hayter beat Mr Gilmour with a baton before he shot her dead.
Narre Warren man Jarod Smit, 25, was last month charged with allegedly murdering Mr Gilmour that night.
His co-accused, Mason Matticoli, 24, was also charged with murder, aggravated home invasion and armed robbery.
Those two men spent nearly three weeks at large over the shooting that rocked the Mornington Peninsula in early December.
Police on Saturday revealed a third man, a 28-year-old from Narre Warren, would also face court charged with murder, aggravated home invasion and armed robbery.
He is due to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday afternoon.
More to come.
