A terrified young mother says she thought her family would be shot to death in their own home when two armed intruders allegedly pulled a gun on her and her husband before stealing their family car.

Anna O’Hea, 21, said she feared for the lives of her six-month-old son and her grandmother, who were inside her Noble Park North home when 26-year-old Liam Smith allegedly demanded her husband, Chris O’Hea, hand over the keys to his silver Ford Fairmont on April 3.

“I was thinking that one of us is going to get shot,” Ms O’Hea told the Herald Sun.

“My six-month-old baby was in the house as well.

Mr Smith allegedly stormed up the driveway of the couple’s Austin Close home about 5pm on Thursday with his girlfriend, 28-year-old Rebecca Hayes, first asking the pair to “give him a lift” because he had been stabbed.

He then allegedly demanded their car keys after denying the couple’s offer to call him an ambulance or a taxi to transport him to hospital.

A court at the weekend heard Mr Smith then implied he was carrying a gun, which Mr O’Hea thought he could see when Mr Smith raised his jumper.

“I thought: “Holy shit if I get in the car with him, he’s going to shoot me in the car.

“We were just panicking … it was horrible,” Ms O’Hea said.

The Herald Sun understands that after taking off with the Ford Fairmont, Mr Smith and Ms Hayes even briefly returned to the O’Heas'’ street before again speeding off about 1.30am on April 4.

They then allegedly terrorised other innocent residents across the southeastern suburbs while driving the stolen Ford.

The court heard that Ms Hayes pointed a gun at a 64-year-old man in Clayton and that the pair also got into an argument with a woman living in a tent nearby and threatened to run her over.

Hours later, they allegedly confronted a 43-year-old man who was in his car on the way to work in Springvale.

Ms Hayes also allegedly tried to steal a rope and a drink from a BP petrol station in Scoresby.

Their alleged spree came to an end when police say they were forced to shoot Ms Hayes twice in the shoulder and breast as she raised a gun to Mr Smith’s head inside the car in Mulgrave about 6am.

“I feel so bad that it (the car) was used in such a horrible way and to terrorise other people,” Ms O’Hea said.

The ordeal left Mr O’Hea’s front windshield peppered with bullet holes and the back windshield completely shattered.

Additional CCTV cameras have been installed at the O’Hea home as a result of the alleged attack.

It is understood Mr Smith had not suffered any stab wounds when the pair arrived at the O’Hea property.

“Your first instinct is to help them ... but I wasn’t willing to get in the car and I could not fathom that the guy had a gun,” Ms O’Hea said.

Mr Smith is facing 21 charges over the ordeal, including reckless conduct endangering life, prohibited person possessing a firearm, aggravated carjacking, robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.

Meanwhile, Ms Hayes was bailed under strict conditions, and faces charges of aggravated carjacking, theft of a motor vehicle, attempted armed robbery, common law assault, shop theft, reckless conduct endangering life/serious injury and non-prohibited person possessing an imitation firearm.

A court heard Ms Hayes feared for her safety if she did not follow Mr Smith’s orders during the ordeal.

She will return to court on July 7.

Mr Smith was remanded in custody to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on June 4.

A Gofundme has been started to help the family’s recovery.
