Cyber crime detectives have questioned a teenage boy over the leaked AFL nude scandal.
A 17-year-old boy was questioned by Victoria Police on Monday in relation to a number of explicit images involving the scandal dubbed “dikileaks” by the wider football community.
At this stage there is insufficient evidence to make charges.
Last month the Herald Sun revealed the AFL had launched an investigation into the shocking collection of nude and graphic images of more than 45 past and present players, including five Brownlow medallists.
The file had been widely shared across social media, with one past player who was embroiled in the scandal telling the Herald Sun it was a “gross breach of privacy.”
At the time the AFL and eSafety Commissioner acted swiftly, working with Google technicians to remove the damning Google Drive document and images.
Brownlow Medallist Jimmy Bartel slammed the actions of the person behind the leak as “disgusting”.
“It’s gross – a majority of images are fake, made up, staged,” Bartel said at the time.
“It’s someone grubby who will hopefully get caught.
“This is a criminal matter now.”
Victoria Police on Thursday confirmed detectives from the Cybercrime Squad had spoken to a teenage boy in relation “to a number of explicit images of AFL players being circulated online.”
“The 17-year-old was spoken to by police on 31 July, however at this time there is insufficient evidence in relation to any applicable charges.”
Police have not received any formal reports in relation to the matter
An AFL spokesperson confirmed Victoria Police were investigating and speaking to a person in relation to the images.
