Teachers allegedly assaulted amid wild brawl at Tarneit Senior College

Wild footage has revealed a group of teachers at Tarneit Senior College in Melbourne’s west allegedly being assaulted by a group of teens after coming to the aid of a student.

Teachers caught up in after-school brawl in Tarneit

Four teachers have fallen victim to an alleged vicious assault by teens while coming to the rescue of a student who was ambushed in an after-school group attack.

The incident unfolded about 3.50pm on Tuesday at Tarneit Senior College, when five teen girls allegedly confronted a student before unleashing a brutal onslaught.

Footage of the assault showed a number of teachers attempting to intervene before getting caught up in the scuffle – some struck as they did so.

Text messages viewed by The Herald Sun between teachers who were involved revealed their terror at being attacked by the group.

It was claimed in one message that a teacher fell to the ground while being kicked in the head by the teens. Another teacher was allegedly struck in the head.

“I’m putting in my first edupay entry tomorrow. I was shaking, it was terrifying seeing it all unfold,” one teacher said in a text message.

Another teacher wrote: “Even more scary was after they got them all outside and outside the school gate … started scaling the fence to come back in to get to staff.”

Some of the teens were allegedly armed with tasers at the time of the assault – it remains unclear whether any were used during the ordeal.

One concerned mother told the Herald Sun on Wednesday that her son was now “too terrified” to attend the secondary college, which educates Years 10 to 12.

“Students and staff have the right to feel safe at school,” the mother said.

“I can’t believe they think they can get away with carrying weapons at school.

“This isn’t the first time this has happened here. Teachers and students are being threatened with violence during class.

“My son doesn’t want to go to school, he is too scared. The Department of Education need to act on this immediately.”

A Department of Education spokesman has since slammed the ambush, saying there was “no place” for violence in our schools.

“We are aware of these incidents and are working closely with the school, impacted students and families as well as co-operating with Victoria Police who are investigating the incidents,” the spokesman said.

All five alleged offenders were arrested at the scene, with police charging a 19-year-old Tarneit woman with affray.

She has been bailed to appear at Werribee Magistrates Court early next year.

The other four are expected to be charged on summons with affray and unlawful assault.

Tarneit Senior College has reportedly hired two security guards in the wake of the attack.
