Two South Melbourne men have been charged with cocaine trafficking after a wave of suburban drug raids Thursday morning.

The pair were arrested at a South Melbourne home as police from the Caulfield divisional response unit seized cocaine with an estimated street value of $10,500 and a total of $5000 in cash.

The 25-year-old men arrested were detained at a South Melbourne property as police moved in around dawn.

They have been charged with trafficking and possession of cocaine and possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

Both were bailed to appear in the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on April 6.

Simultaneous raids were carried out at Elwood, St Kilda, Brighton and Elsternwick.

Members from the Prahran, Mornington and Dandenong DRU’s were also involved in the operation.

In an unrelated investigation, officers from Caulfield DRU last week seized 192 cannabis plants and 15kg of harvested cannabis in separate busts.

Detectives acting on a tip-off from the public raided a Larama Rd, Braeside, property on January 10 and found the plants, which had an estimated value of $576,000.

A Carrum woman, 49, was arrested later in the week after Graham Rd, Carrum, property was searched.

About $170,000 in cash, 10kg of dried cannabis and plants were seized.

Investigators then did a second raid on a property on Governor Rd, Braeside, where they found $570,000 in cash and five kg of cannabis.

The Carrum woman will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on April 21 after being charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of drugs and possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

Detective Sen-Sgt David Quirk said the seizures had hit the financial foundations of traffickers.

He said investigators would continue to gather intelligence on other such offenders and put them before courts.
