Sister of missing woman Farzana Ahad pleads for public assistance more than four years after last sighting

Nobody has spoken to Farzana Ahad since she vanished in Melbourne more than four years ago and her bank accounts have remained untouched — but now police are renewing their push to solve this “perplexing” case.

Police renew push for missing woman Farzana Ahad

The distraught sister of a woman who vanished from the streets of Melbourne says she fears the worst as police reignite the “perplexing” missing persons case.

It has been more than four years since Farzana Ahad was last seen at Fitzroy Gardens and she has not spoken to family or accessed any bank accounts in that time.

There have been no reported sightings of Ms Ahad, who moved from Bangladesh in the 2000s, since that time and detectives do not believe she has access to a vehicle.

They have no leads on where she may be now.

Ms Ahad’s devastated sister, Farhana, says she has no idea how or why her only sibling could have gone missing.

She said her talented sister, who had secured her masters in marketing and business administration and last worked for Energy Australia, says it has been a “traumatic” experience for her entire family.

“(It’s been) very traumatic for my family and for me as well. We are just thinking (of) the worst thing in our minds… we haven’t heard anything from her,” she said.

“We’re just very confused because we were very tight as a family.

“We had a very good relationship, we would message each other over the phone every day, when we got a chance, we would go overseas to see our parents.

“We love her very much and we miss her. We want her home.”

She said it was painful to know her sister would not be aware of her two-year-old nephew.

“I have a son, (it’s) quite sad because my sister loved children, she’d be very happy to know I have a son now,” she added.

“She was a very art-loving person, that’s why she was living in Melbourne, very friendly, nice-natured, very studious, she used to read a lot, she loved her friends.”

Victoria Police Detective Acting Sergeant Tom McAuley said it was a “perplexing” case for the Yarra Crime Investigation Unit.

He said they had serious concerns for Ms Ahad’s welfare and had no leads on where she may be.

“Since that time, Farzana has not been seen or spoken to by any person,” he said.

“Despite exhaustive inquiries from the Yarra CIU, we are no closer to understanding her current whereabouts.

“Farzana has a number of health issues, I understand she’s been living rough in Melbourne for some time, our primary concern is her welfare.”

Farzana is described as having olive skin, about 160cm tall, with a medium build and dark hair.

She also has distinctive tattoos, including a Zodiac, rose and a butterfly on her back, and a Hindu symbol on her upper left arm.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact the Richmond Police Station.
