Seven Finks bikies – including senior gang office-bearers – have been charged for riding along the footpath in Southbank, with police saying the allegedly “reckless” behaviour put the community at risk.

Finks OMCG raids across Melbourne

Seven Finks bikies – including senior gang office-bearers – have been charged for riding in formation along the footpath on Southbank Promenade.

Detectives from the Echo Taskforce arrested the seven patched members on Wednesday over an incident on August 9, in which Finks rode between bollards in club gear and along the riverside walkway.

Echo, with members of the VIPER Taskforce and East Gippsland CIU, carried out 11 warrants.

Two were at Fink clubhouses in Cranbourne West and Brunswick East as well as homes in Clyde North, Safety Beach, Dallas, Wy Yung, Springvale, Mount Martha, Harkness, Rosebud and Keysborough.

Seven men were later charge with reckless conduct endangering serious injury and riding or driving on a path.

Those charged were:

A 32-year-old Safety Beach man, who police will allege is an officer bearer.

A 44-year-old Dallas man, who police will allege is a World member

A 27-year-old Wy Yung man.

A 34-year-old Springvale man, who police will allege is an officer bearer.

A 34-year-old Mount Martha man, who police will allege is a national president.

A 41-year-old Rosebud man, who also faces a cannabis possession count.

A 33-year-old Keysborough man.

They have been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 21.

Seven Harley Davidson motorcycles have been seized, along with Finks OMCG vests.

Police say they rode the bikes for 350m along the promenade, between pedestrians, street vendors and buskers.

“There was a high level of pedestrian traffic at the time, including families and children, all of whom were required to move out of the way of the group,” a Victoria Police statement said.

“The group then parked their bikes and spoke with each other for approximately ten minutes, before returning to the bikes and continuing to ride in formation for another 150m. They then entered the Queens Street Bridge and left the area.”

Outlaw bikie gang spotted in Southbank

Detective acting Insp. Ash Ryan of the Echo Taskforce slammed the alleged behaviour.

“This is completely unacceptable behaviour by an outlaw motorcycle gang, thinking they are above the law and putting innocent members of our community at risk during probably the busiest time of week to be along Southbank,” Insp. Ryan said.

“It is seriously reckless conduct and a significant concern for Victoria Police and the Echo Taskforce. We have made it a priority to follow up every avenue of inquiry available to us and hold those responsible to account.”

Insp. Ryan said families, including children, the elderly and people trying to enjoy a Friday night out were “confronted by a contingent of motorbikes jeopardising their safety.”

“We are not intimidated by outlaw motorcycle gangs, and we will not allow our community to be either,” he said.
