INVESTIGATORS are said to be bemused at gangland figure Sam Abdulrahim’s claims they told him he was about to die in the period after he was shot in a cemetery ambush.
Abdulrahim this week told the Supreme Court that he was approached by investigators in his hospital bed after eight bullets were pumped into him in an ambush after his cousin’s funeral at Fawkner.
The kickboxing former Mongol bikie, known in fight circles as “The Punisher’’, said the officers wanted him to nominate who was responsible.
“You’re not going to make it. Just tell us who did it,” Abdulrahim said he was told by the officers.
“Really good to keep my hopes up.”
The 31-year-old said his police visitors told him he had “too many holes” to survive the attack, carried out in June last year.
Victoria Police declined to comment on Wednesday.
But the Herald Sun has been told police have been unable to confirm Abdulrahim was informed he would die so he may as well identify the shooter.
Investigators from the armed crime squad visited him the next day and members who were first responders would have been wearing body-worn cameras.
In any case, he has never nominated who was responsible.
Abdulrahim gave his account during a civil trial in the Supreme Court.
He is taking legal action against the State Government over 73 days he alleged were unlawfully spent behind bars in 2019 as a result of his parole being revoked.
Abdulrahim was returned to jail after a series of shootings in which he was allegedly the intended victim.
The Fawkner Cemetery shooters are yet to be arrested.
Two teenage suspects flew to Dubai in the immediate aftermath of the attack and are yet to return.
