A man has confessed to brutally killing his wife the morning of his second murder trial.
Roland Griffiths, 40, on Monday pleaded guilty to murdering his wife Kylie, 36, who was doused in petrol and set alight in their family home in Albanvale in Melbourne’s west in March 2022.
He also pleaded guilty to recklessly causing serious injury to his teenage stepdaughter.
The shock confession came as a Supreme Court jury was preparing for day one of his second murder trial.
Seven children were inside the home when Griffiths fatally attacked his wife.
A court previously heard the confessed killer grabbed a fuel can and poured it over the lounge room, kitchen and Ms Griffiths because he was enraged at his stepdaughter for using his iPad.
According to police, Griffiths allegedly grabbed a cigarette lighter and said “You want me to do it?” as his family screamed for him to stop.
Griffiths ignited the lighter at his wife’s feet, engulfing her and the house in flames.
She suffered burns to more than 90 per cent of her body and died in hospital days later.
His stepdaughter also suffered serious burns to her body, face and arms.
Griffiths will return to court on March 17.
