A much-loved grandfather was allegedly stabbed to death inside his Brighton home as new details have emerged of a rift in the family.
Robert Hillemacher, 84, was found dead in his Foote St home on Friday night, with son Anton charged with his murder on Sunday.
The Herald Sun understands Mr Hillemacher was stabbed several times.
Police have charged Anton, 52, with one count of murder and aggravated burglary. He faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Sunday night. The matter was adjourned for a committal mention hearing on October 28.
It comes as a social media post – believed to be written by Anton – details a disagreement between Mr Hillemacher and his four sons over the family’s money.
Anton accused his late father and two of his brothers of duping him out of his mother’s will following her death two years ago.
“They all have heaps of money, yet find it amusing to torment and belittle me!” Anton wrote in the lengthy post last month.
It is understood Anton has long suffered from a severe head injury after being hit by a car about 20 years ago, and was paid a significant amount of money years later.
In the post, he said he had been living with his father before being kicked out four months ago, having to live on his younger brother’s couch in recent weeks.
Two other sons, Martin and Jamie, are believed to have been on holiday overseas when they heard of their father’s death.
Both brothers are set to return to Australia in the coming days.
A neighbour and close friend of Mr Hillemacher was visibly emotional on Sunday morning, still reeling from the news of his death.
“It’s a terrible tragedy,” said the neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous.
Mr Hillemacher had been living in the area for about 50 years and was well known to his neighbours and friends along Foote St.
He had largely been living by himself following the death of his wife, Wendy, in 2022.
