An unlicensed Porsche driver who was allegedly travelling at “high speed” through Fitzroy before he ploughed into a female cyclist has walked free from court after being granted bail.

Daniel Blight, 39, sat in the dock of the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday afternoon and blew a kiss to his partner before he learnt his bid for freedom had been successful.

The Gold Coast man – allegedly associated with a Queensland outlaw motorcycle gang – is accused of striking the cyclist at the intersection of St Georges Rd and Park St about 4.15pm on Wednesday after running a red light.

The Brunswick woman, who was using the pedestrian crossing after riding along the Capital City Trail, was thrown onto the bonnet and sent “flying” as the Porsche driver slammed on the brakes.

Multiple witnesses told police they saw the luxury car speeding prior to the collision in the 40km/h zone.

“I observed the white Porsche speed up more and heard a crash and saw a body flying in the air,” one witness said.

The cyclist, also 39, continues to fight for life at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, with Senior Constable Glenn Morris telling the court she remains in a critical condition on life support.

Mr Blight is allegedly associated with Queensland outlaw motorcycle club Lone Wolf.

The court heard Mr Blight’s licence was suspended in Queensland after he racked up nine traffic infringements in 15 months and lost all his demerit points, which meant he was unlicensed to drive in Victoria.

The father of two was remanded in custody last week after being charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury, disobeying a red light and unlicensed driving.

Constable Morris told the court a preliminary breath test revealed Mr Blight was over the legal limit when the collision occurred.

CCTV footage from a property located 50m from the intersection, obtained by police, captured a “loud revving” sound from the Porsche moments before impact.

The court also heard Mr Blight was allegedly an associate of a member of a Queensland outlaw motorcycle club, called Lone Wolf, but was not a member himself.

Mr Blight made his bid for bail on Thursday but the hearing was adjourned to Monday after Magistrate Olivia Trumble requested more information from the parties.

On Thursday, Senior Constable Patrick Guinan told the court the accused was found guilty of five driving offences over 16 years, including driving while disqualified and exceeding speed of more than 45km/h.

According to Queensland court documents, Mr Blight was also handed a five-month suspended sentence in March 2023.

Before granting bail, Ms Trumble said she had taken into consideration his stable accommodation, his employment as a tiler and the fact he has the support of his family.

She said her ability to impose bail conditions would “reduce the risk” of Mr Blight committing further driving offences while on bail.

She ordered Mr Blight not to drive a motor vehicle or consume any alcohol, and instructed him to surrender his passport.

His family offered to pay a $100,000 surety, which will be forfeited if he breaches any of his bail conditions or fails to attend court.

When asked if he understood this, Mr Blight – sporting a sleeve tattoo and a crew cut – responded “I understand, Your Honour”.

He will return to court on February 14 for a committal mention.
