Murder detectives’ search for a mystery man seen with Hells Angels associate Kerry Giakoumis before he vanished has hit a dead-end.
CCTV footage of the man was captured in a Melbourne lift in the period before Giakoumis vanished in the early hours of June 10, 2020, after he had visited an Angels clubhouse in Thomastown.
Giakoumis taskforce investigators believe the man – who was seen with Giakoumis – potentially has answers which could unlock the case.
That man is slender and with tattoos on his neck and wore a peaked cap and a hoodie.
“This man was seen in a group of men who were in company with Kerry on the night of his disappearance,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
Giakoumis is known to have visited the Richmond apartment of an associate during the period in which the man’s image was captured.
The missing 29-year-old had travelled from Adelaide with two Hells Angels members five days before he was last seen alive.
He visited the Nomads chapter headquarters in Lipton Drive, Thomastown, and was never seen again.
Investigators believe he was killed inside the OMCG stronghold and his body later taken from the building for disposal.
A key figure under scrutiny is a senior Hells Angel and standover man who police have established was at Lipton Drive at the time.
That man has a history of violent crime and has been spoken to by detectives investigating the Giakoumis disappearance.
There have been multiple arrests without charge as police rattled the cages of Hells Angels members and their associates.
A major operation was run around Jacksons Creek in Diggers Creek looking for the missing man’s body.
The police working theory is that there was no plan to kill Giakoumis and that his death was the result of a spontaneous episode of violence.
Giakoumis, who told his family he was heading to Melbourne to look for concreting work, was not a patched member of the Hells Angels.
It is believed what happened to him angered some of the South Australian members of the gang.
His mother had booked a flight home for him for the day he disappeared but he did not board and all contact with family ceased.
