Man fronts court over fatal Kalkallo shooting

A rapper with a fondness for designer clothing has been accused of murdering his online acquaintance in Kalkallo.

A rapper who performed under the stage name “Drips” has been charged over the fatal shooting of a man known to him following an alleged targeted home invasion in Kalkallo.

Lachlan Belmore, 24, was charged with one count of murder following the death of Griffin Harris, 22, on September 21.

Mr Harris, from Kalkallo, has been remembered as a young man who loved the outdoors.

The pair were Facebook friends.

Mr Belmore has more than 8000 YouTube subscribers and has songs titled Darkside, 2 Smooth and Mixing Potions.

Mr Belmore has several tattoos and appears to enjoy donning designer accessories including a Gucci crossbody bag, a Gucci cap, a Louis Vuitton belt and a Burberry scarf.

Mr Belmore’s facebook profile features the caption: “At your highest times be careful. Thats (sic) when the devil comes for you”.

Mr Belmore, from Mickleham, faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and made no application for bail.

“It has been many years since he has been in custody,” his lawyer told the court.

The lawyer asked that her client be seen by a nurse while in custody.

“I don’t have any instructions about withdrawing or the like, just to see the nurse,” the lawyer said.

The magistrate said: “I have noted there are no custody management issues”.

Mr Belmore made no application for bail and will next face court on February 13.

It comes as a second man was charged over the alleged murder on Tuesday.

Dean Bell, 31, was arrested on Monday and interviewed by homicide squad detectives on Tuesday.

Mr Bell, from Wallan, was charged with murder, home invasion, possessing a rifle and attempted kidnapping.

Mr Bell is a father of two young boys.

His Facebook account features a picture holding hands with his two children on the beach with the caption: “I love my family”.

Mr Bell describes himself on social media as “rEbellIOU$”.

He boasts online of his job, saying: “I’m a full time sick c---.”

Six men have been arrested over the September 21 fatal shooting.

Emergency services were called to a Oodgeroo Rd home about 4.15am following reports a man was injured during an altercation at the Kalkallo property.

Police found the 22-year old Kalkallo man dead upon arrival.

Six search warrants were subsequently executed in Mickleham, Keilor, Craigieburn and Wallan on Monday.

A 25-year-old Wallan man and a 19-year-old Craigieburn man have been charged with home invasion.

A 22-year-old Keilor woman and a 22-year-old Wallan man have also been released pending further inquiries.

Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted incident and the parties involved were known to each other.
