Two police officers have been charged over a shooting in the state’s northwest.

The officers will face three counts of conduct endangering life and three of conduct endangering serious injury over an incident at Elphinstone in 2020.

Shots were fired into a car on Harmony Way on June 23 of that year.

The driver and a passenger suffered minor gunshot wounds in the incidents.

The officers have been charged after an investigation by professional standards command.

They are a 42-year-old first constable and 50-year-old leading senior constable.

“Both men have been summonsed to face a magistrates’ court on a later date,” a Victoria Police statement said.

Police said in 2020 that officers had tried to pull over an SUV travelling at high speed on the Calder Highway, near Kyneton.

It drove away and was monitored as it travelled to Harmony Way where a woman was let out of the vehicle.

The earlier police statement said the SUV drove at members before shots were fired.
