Man hands himself in over fatal Burwood smash
A man has handed himself in to police over a fatal crash in Burwood in which a 16-year-old passenger was killed.

A 22-year old man has handed himself in to police over a fatal crash in Burwood last week.
Police launched a public appeal to find Lachlan Thorpe-Smith on Saturday in connection with the horrific collision on the Burwood Highway at 1.20am on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called after the allegedly stolen Subaru crashed into a pole.
The 16-year old passenger from Reservoir, Bill Hexter, died at the scene, but the car’s driver allegedly fled the crash.
Major collision investigation unit detectives revealed they were looking for Mr Thorpe-Smith in relation to the crash and believe he may be able to assist with their inquiries.
Thorpe-Smith attended an inner-suburban police station about 10pm on Saturday night and was placed under arrest.
The Reservoir man is currently under police guard in hospital, where he is receiving treatment for injuries believed to be sustained in the crash.
Police believed the driver may have suffered a head injury in the crash, after blood was found on the steering wheel and in the driver’s seat.

Bill, a 16-year-old passenger, also from Reservoir, died at the scene but the car’s driver had allegedly fled.
MCIU officers allege that the 2008 Subaru Tribeca was stolen from Reservoir overnight on July 15-16.
Mates of Bill left tributes at the scene in the aftermath of the tragedy.
