CCTV of a cyclist has been released as part of an investigation into a sex attack on a jogger on the Dandenong Creek Trail.

Detectives from the sexual crimes squad, who praised the courage of the victim, are hoping to identify the man as part of their inquiry into the disturbing incident on January 31.

They will run an information caravan at Dandenong North on Wednesday in the hope of gleaning more clues.

The victim was running south along the trail, near Outlook Drive and just north of Mercer Court when she noticed a man on a bike at 3pm.

She turned to run north soon after and the same man approached and threw her to the ground.

He lay on top of her and tried to take off her clothes.

Police say the victim screamed and managed to fight off the attacker.

The man then jumped on his bike and headed south towards Tirhatuan Park as the woman called emergency help.

Police arrived but could not find the man, who is described as being in his late teens or early 20s and of thin build with an olive complexion.

He may be of Indian or subcontinental appearance.

The man wore a grey T-shirt, dark pants, slides and socks at the time of the incident.

The information caravan will be run at the corner of Police Rd and the Dandenong Creek trail from 1pm

Investigators say they have been unable to find any similar incidents and are treating the January 31 incident as an isolated attack.

Increased patrols have been unable to find the offender.

They are hoping to hear from anyone who has seen the man in the CCTV in the past or knows who he is.

Detective Sen-Sgt Glyn Woolley said it was a concerning attack on someone just trying to go for a run.

“She has been exceptionally brave and managed to fight him off before contacting police,” Sen-Sgt Woolley said.

“Hopefully by holding this information caravan and releasing this footage today, this will provide us with new lines of inquiry.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersvic.com.au.
