Police have charged an “aggressive” man who was “ready to kill” after he allegedly assaulted two women in terrifying daylight attacks in Frankston.

Witnesses have told of hearing the “piercing scream” from one of the women allegedly struck by the crazed man at the Shiners Jet car wash on Cranbourne Rd about 11am Thursday.

Police say the man allegedly tried to steal several cars from the car wash and assaulted a number of women.

It is understood he was wielding a metal pole.

CCTV footage shows the alleged offender approaching one of his victims on foot.

A confrontation occurs at the vehicle before she runs away in fear.

He then launches two vicious punches directed toward her face and continues following her around the car wash before she flees.

The brave car wash attendant was seen attempting to intervene while the offender jumped in her Subaru.

Ryan Purdie had been washing his vehicle before he heard one of the victims cry for help.

Mr Purdie, 35, said the victim was vacuuming her car when the man approached and struck her before she attempted to run from him.

“He had hit her with an iron bar but dropped it. We all just stopped after she screamed,” he told the Herald Sun.

“She ran into the cheesecake shop while he casually walked off. He was casually walking like nothing had happened.

“He looked like he was ready to kill someone today.”

Fellow witness Ashlea, who was with her seven-month-old, said the man was “clearly targeting women” near the car wash.

The man allegedly demanded the woman’s car keys.

“(I’m) just a bit in shock and stuck hearing the woman’s scream,” she told the Herald Sun.

“I heard this piercing scream and witnessed this woman run from the car wash into the slip lane and this man chased her and lunged at her which is when he must have hit her.

“He was clearly targeting women as there were plenty of men there. (It’s) so scary and shocking that women can’t even go to the car wash.”

The man is also accused of several attempted carjackings in the vicinity, including of the woman vacuuming her vehicle.

“It is alleged that several people were threatened by a man in a carpark,” police said in a statement.

“A woman was allegedly approached by the man, who made demands for her car keys, before assaulting her.

“The same man allegedly attended a nearby shop and assaulted a second woman and made demands for her car keys, before fleeing the scene.”

That woman was treated for minor injuries.

Mr Purdie, who witnessed one of the alleged attacks, then followed the man as he boarded a bus while giving his description of the man to triple-0.

Several officers pounced when the offender exited the bus nearby.

“I jumped in my car and proceeded to follow him and he jumped on the bus which was not convenient,” he added.

“The police came within a minute, they were very quick, I told the bus driver to keep the doors closed.

“They struggled to get him out because he was quite aggressive.”

The 24-year-old man has been charged with three counts of attempted carjacking, two counts of aggravated assault of a female, reckless cause injury and unlawful assault and resist arrest.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 28.
