Pedestrian ambushed, stabbed in terrifying roadside attack

A man has spent the night in hospital after being ambushed and stabbed while walking along a highway near Daylesford on Friday afternoon.

A man has spent the night in hospital after he was attacked by a group and stabbed while walking along the Midland Hwy near Ballarat.

It is understood a group of men got out of a car and ambushed the unidentified man about 4:05pm on September 1.

Police said the stabbing, at Creswick, occurred after an altercation of some kind.

Paramedics were called to the incident about 5.30pm.

The man was transported to St John of God Hospital in Ballarat with non-life threatening injuries.

Creswick is a small town in western Victoria, located between Ballarat and Daylesford.

The town was historically a former goldmining town and is surrounded by thick pine and eucalyptus plantations.

Police are working to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
