Hundreds of the state’s most wanted alleged family violence perpetrators have been arrested in a major crackdown.

More than 900 alleged offenders were tracked down and 460 people arrested as part of Operation Enforceable, the first of its kind in Victoria.

Among those charged was a 33-year-old man accused of a vicious assault of his pregnant partner and making threats with a knife.

Another man, also 33, was remanded on charges related to a terrifying family-violence aggravated burglary.

Police allege he broke into the unit of a former partner while her five-year-old son was also home. He had been actively avoiding police for five months.

An alleged serial family violence perpetrator was also charged after years on the run from police. The man, 34, was wanted for almost three years on outstanding warrants for alleged assaults on multiple female victims, breaching community correction orders, burglary and criminal damage.

A man, 47, who allegedly stalked and harassed a family member using a mobile phone was also arrested. He had been wanted for four months.

The six-day operation took place in August and October and involved more than 500 police, including members from specialist units such as the Viper task force and public order response team.

It took aim at family violence offenders with histories of avoiding police, including by blackmailing victims into keeping them hidden.

It set out with a target of tracking down 3000 of the state’s most elusive offenders.

More than 450 family violence intervention orders were served. A further 480 outstanding warrants were executed.

Acting Superintendent Holly Dalrymple, of Family Violence Command, said most offenders were men committing acts of violence against women and children.

Some victim-survivors had experienced sexual violence.

“This operation shows just how serious we are in holding family violence offenders to account and ensuring the safety of victim-survivors,” she said.

Police attend more than 93,000 family violence incidents each year in Victoria – roughly one every six minutes.

Superintendent Dalryple said such crimes would not be tolerated and victim-survivors would be believed if they came forward to report violence.

“We will take action to protect you and your loved ones,” she said.
