One dead and five others in hospital after two cars crashed in Parwan near Melton

A child is fighting for life after a horror smash in Melbourne’s west that left his father dead and his mother and sister seriously injured.

A 12-year-old boy is fighting for life following a crash that killed his father and left his mother and sister seriously injured.

Police have charged a 65-year-old Mont Albert North man after five people were rushed to hospital on Sunday when a Jeep and Ford Ranger collided in Parwan near Melton.

The cars struck one another on Nerowie Rd between Parwan South Rd and Bucklers Rd about 10.10am.

The boy’s father, a 51-year-old Clifton Springs man who was driving the Ford, died at the scene.

The 12-year-old boy on Monday remained in a critical but stable condition with upper body injuries, while a seven-year-old girl was in a serious but stable condition with head injuries at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

It is understood the two children were sitting in the rear of the car when the crash occurred.

A 45-year-old Clifton Springs woman in the passenger seat remained in a serious but stable condition.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged the Mont Albert North man who was driving the Jeep with one count of dangerous driving causing death and four counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury.

He suffered non life-threatening injuries.

A 61-year-old Kew woman, a passenger in the Jeep, was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The Jeep driver has been bailed and will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 25.

He was on Sunday arrested and assisted police with their inquiries.

Investigations remain ongoing as police try to piece together the circumstances surrounding the collision.
