The friend who was last known to be messaging brutally murdered Brunswick teenager Isla Bell — within an hour of when police allege she was attacked — has opened up on the heartbreaking loss of her “kindred spirit”.
Pixie Rivalland is understood to be the last friend that Ms Bell, 19, made contact with.
A preliminary brief by police claims Ms Bell and Ms Rivalland snapchatted just after midnight, with Ms Bell claiming she had found “the best Russian sugar daddy”.
It is at 12.43am that CCTV captures the attack by accused murderer Marat Ganiev on Ms Bell.
Her horrific final moments were captured on CCTV while her accused killer allegedly beat her on the kitchen floor of his apartment, before her body was stored in a fridge for weeks.
Six weeks after she went missing Ms Bell’s remains were discovered on Tuesday in a rubbish truck in Dandenong.
Sharing several social media posts that had been written in tribute to Ms Bell, Ms Rivalland added her own words of despair.
“My beautiful kindred spirit,” she wrote. “My heart screams for you. I love you so much.”
“My beautiful sweet pea. I will love you and miss you forever.
“For as long as I live I will never understand why. My beautiful soul sister. ‘Til Valhalla my darling.”
Ms Rivalland’s Facebook page showed she had shared more than 15 missing persons posts about Ms Bell since October 15, right up until Tuesday, the day her body was found.
On another Facebook page, Help us find Isla Bell, Ms Rivalland wrote another moving tribute.
“I feel as though a piece of my soul is gone. Isla was kind, gentle, loving, intelligent, ambitious. She had hopes and dreams. She had so many things to do, places to go, people to see,” she said.
“Isla loved nature and animals, she loved exploring, making memories, she loved being an aunty, she loved her family, she loved this world – despite its cruelty.
“Isla fiercely loved and protected everyone close to her. She would move mountains for her loved ones. Her strength and kindness were one of a kind. Isla deserved to celebrate her 20th birthday surrounded by friends and family.
“We want Isla to be remembered for the woman she was, not for what happened to her.”
Ms Bell was reported missing on October 10 with police charging 53-year-old St Kilda man Mr Ganiev with her murder and his associate, 57-year-old Eyal Yaffe, with assisting an offender this week.
Mr Ganiev has been remanded in custody until his next appearance in March, while Mr Yaffe will make a bail application at court on Friday.
It comes as a tragic link has been revealed between Ms Bell and Victorian MP Georgie Purcell, with the Animal Justice Party member revealing Ms Bell often engaged with her Instagram posts, including those about femicide.
A “devastated” and “angry” Ms Purcell shared a post revealing the link and speaking of her heartbreak at another female’s life being taken away at the hands of a man, too soon.
“I didn’t know Isla personally, but I did watch as she engaged on my own Instagram page,” she said. “She made jokes and offered solidarity.
“She also liked my posts about ending femicide and attending the national rallies against violence. It’s hard to think I am now writing about it happening to her.”
Ms Purcell also offered her condolences to Ms Bell’s family in the post and promised to keep fighting for women.
“So, for now, I want to offer my deepest sympathies to Isla’s friends, family and all who loved her,” she said.
“And to everyone feeling devastated and angry – I am too. I will keep doing all I can to make our government act. And I won’t shut up until men take this issue as seriously as we do.”
Ms Bell’s uncle, Tom Hope, also called out the scourge of violence against women on Wednesday night.
“This is the worst imaginable thing,” he said.
“It’s been devastating, shocking. I feel really angry, sad.”
