Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lineham of the Major Collision Investigation Unit said the scene of the crime was a devastating sight on Wednesday evening.

“It’s absolute carnage down there,” he said.

Investigations continue into the crash with the circumstance surrounding the accident yet to be determined.

Locals swiftly took to social media after reports of the crash began to surface slamming the poor state of the highway, with many saying they weren’t surprised.

“Bloody Western Hwy just waits every day for another accident,” one wrote.

“Why do vehicles have to be roadworthy and not the roads can anyone tell me that please?” and “this bloody road was meant to have been duplicated right through to Stawell by the end of 2022” were others.
