More Cobram bikies nabbed in drug raids

Mongol bikies and a 70-year-old woman have been arrested in the latest drug raids in Cobram, months after alleged club enforcer Josh Eddy was nabbed.

More alleged Mongol bikies and their associates in Cobram have been arrested in a fresh sweep of drug trafficking raids.

Detectives have charged three men and arrested a 70-year-old woman, three months after an earlier operation based on the Murray River town, which ensnared alleged club sergeant-at-arms Josh Eddy.

A Cobram man, who police say is a patched member of the Mongols, was among those arrested this week as part of an investigation by members of the Echo taskforce, Cobram CIU members and officers from the Australian Federal Police.

The 28-year-old was charged with trafficking a drug of dependence, possessing an imitation firearm, possessing ammunition, possessing proceeds of crime, possessing a firearm part in contravention of a firearms prohibition order and possession of steroids.

Another man, aged 18, was arrested and charged with possessing a drug of dependence, negligently dealing with the proceeds of crime, possessing an imitation firearm and possessing ammunition.

He was bailed to appear in Cobram Magistrates’ Court on January 19.

A Cobram man, 21, was charged with trafficking a drug of dependence and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

Police said a 70-year-old Cobram woman was arrested and interviewed over allegations of negligently dealing with the proceeds of crime and possessing cartridge ammunition.

The woman was released pending further inquiries.

Investigators carried out warrants at a home and two storage units in Cobram as part of the operation.

Firearms prohibition order compliance checks were also made.

Police said they seized cocaine, cash, an imitation firearm, steroids and gun parts in what they have described as ongoing operation.

In July, police swooped on and charged several members of a Mongols-linked family accused of running a massive cross-border drug operation.

Police allege Josh Eddy, a 29-year-old Cobram businessman and Mongols sergeant-at-arms, was the ringleader of the drug trafficking operation, which also entangled his father David, 51, and sister Jaide, 18.

Police allege they were “secondary” members of the alleged criminal enterprise, with Jaide charged with four counts of trafficking a large quantity of drugs, while David faces 12 charges.

Several properties linked to the family were raided, with drugs including cocaine and methamphetamine, firearms, cash, designer handbags and sneakers seized.

The bust sparked a subsequent wave of raids of Mongols-linked properties across Melbourne.

Police executed search warrants at homes in Southbank, Docklands, Montrose, Reservoir and Pakenham.

About $1m worth of designer clothes, jewellery and watches were seized in addition to drugs and cash.
