A Hells Angels associate feared to have been murdered in Melbourne was pressured to make the interstate trip by members of the warring gang.

Adelaide man Kerry Giakoumis, 29, vanished without a trace after entering the Hells Angels OMCG clubhouse in Thomastown with several bikies in the early hours of June 10, 2020.

Homicide squad detectives believe he was killed amid an internal gang dispute and have ramped up efforts to solve the year-long cover-up.

A long-time friend of Giakoumis told the Herald Sun the concreter had a bad feeling about the trip but was pushed into it by members of Adelaide’s North Crew chapter.

“I saw the way his phone keep ringing … there was so much persistence for him to go away with them and to me that was alarming,” the friend told the Herald Sun.

“My partner heard him on the phone saying ‘I’m coming, I’m coming’. He didn’t seem himself … there was a lot of pressure on his shoulders. I could see he didn’t want to go.”

Giakoumis told family he intended to work on a large-scale concreting job in Melbourne.

When he arrived, he told family he wanted to come home, prompting his mother to book him a return flight to Adelaide despite previous plans he would drive back with the North Crew.

But he never boarded the plane and has not been seen or heard from again.

His friend said the past year has been agonising for his family and that they want answers.

“We don’t have a body so to us there is no closure or understanding about why this happened,” the friend said.

“His parents are lost. You don’t think you’ll wake up one morning and have to report a family member missing and never see them again. It has been devastating to sit back and watch and not be able to do anything.”

Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper said there are people with knowledge of what happened to Giakoumis and it was time they came forward.

“We know he went to the Hells Angels club house in the early hours of 10 June last year, however what we don’t know is what has happened to Kerry and why,” he said.

“On the anniversary of his death, police are again appealing for anyone with information about Kerry’s disappearance to come forward including anyone who was at the clubhouse on the night.

“Someone out there knows what happened to Kerry and why – and we are hopeful they are ready to talk to us.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
