The son and alleged murderer of a much loved Brighton grandfather has been found dead in prison just about two weeks before he was next set to face court.

Anton Hillemacher’s body was discovered in Ravenhall Correctional Centre on Wednesday, more than three months after his father, Robert Hillemacher, 84, was allegedly stabbed to death in his Foote St home.

Anton had been charged with his father’s murder and one count of aggravated burglary by investigators in the days following the incident.

He was being kept at the Ravenhall Correctional Centre after his committal mention hearing was adjourned until October 28 this year.

Corrections Victoria acknowledged Anton’s death on Thursday, adding it had been reported to the Coroners Court of Victoria to determine the cause of death.

“We recognise that all deaths in custody have an impact on family, friends, those working within the corrections system, as well as victims of crime,” the Corrections Victoria statement read.

The Hillemacher family has now endured a series of tragic deaths in recent years, having held a funeral for Robert several weeks ago.

He was remembered as a “proud and loving” father and grandfather who would now be reunited with his wife Wendy Hillemacher, 77, who died in 2022.

“Your presence we miss, your memory we treasure, loving you always,” his obituary read.

Robert’s alleged murder followed a tense time in the family, with a cryptic social media post – believed to be written by Anton – describing a disagreement between 84-year-old and his four sons over the family’s money.

Anton accused his late father and brother of duping him out of his mother’s will and argued he did not receive his share of the money.

“They all have heaps of money, yet find it amusing to torment and belittle me!” Anton wrote in the post a month prior to his father’s death.

He had been living with Robert at his Brighton home before he claims he was kicked out of the house.

“Since then I’ve been living on my younger brothers couch as they have ditched him as well a long time ago!” Anton continued.

The Herald Sun understands Anton had long suffered a severe head injury after a car accident about 20 years ago, for which he was paid out a large sum of money.
