A man has been shot in a violent early morning attack in the city’s CBD.
Police on Collins St were approached by a man with a gunshot wound about 6.30am on Sunday morning.
The man, aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police sealed off sections of the Collins St – near the corner of Williams St – on Sunday morning as they probed the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
CCTV footage from a nearby business, seen by the Herald Sun, revealed a white Toyota HiLux ute parked on Collins St at 6.09am this morning.
At 6.15am the HiLux’s driver appeared to become embroiled in a heated argument with a pedestrian.
Shortly after, a black SUV pulled in front of the parked HiLux where it is believed shots can be heard being fired, before pedestrians are seen fleeing from the area.
“For something like that to happen is pretty ordinary,” a local business owner, who did not wish to be named, told the Herald Sun.
“Just shows a lack of respect for the community, brazenly in the middle of the morning.
“Maybe they should pay when they get caught compensation to all the shopkeepers as they shut down for the day.
“Luck of the draw isn’t it, could have happened anywhere in the city.”
The victim was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with upper body injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.
