A self-proclaimed socialite and influencer has fronted court after allegedly making false claims that Aussie sweetheart Rhonda Burchmore assaulted him at a star-studded musical opening.

Werribee man Kodei Mulcahy appeared briefly before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning, where he stepped into the place of his lawyer and stood at the bar table.

The 22-year-old, wearing a white T-shirt, asked the court to adjourn his case after the court was told he was represented by Bernie Balmer, who could not attend.

It was his first appearance before the court on charges of perjury and making a false report after he allegedly made bogus claims to police that he was “physically assaulted” at the Melbourne opening of the Dolly Parton musical 9 To 5.

Mr Mulcahy claimed on social media on July 15 last year that Burchmore “punched me in the shoulder” at the Arts Centre Melbourne event the night before.

However, it’s understood that Burchmore had told Mr Mulcahy to leave her alone after he approached her.

He then made a report to police.

A month later, Mr Mulcahy was interviewed by officers for making a false statement and he was charged this year.

In court, Mr Mulcahy was told that applications by the media for documents relating to his case would be refused because he wasn’t represented by a lawyer.

“Thanks, I appreciate that,” he replied.

He will return to court on March 20.
