A man has died following a shooting in Burnside Heights on Friday night.
Police are investigating after finding a man with a gunshot wound outside a Tenterfield Drive property about 9.10pm.
The victim, a 34-year-old from Wallan, died at the scene.
Detectives on Friday night probed a small Suzuki hatchback that had several bullet holes through the front and rear windows.
A witness reportedly saw the shooter approach the Suzuki on foot before blasting several shots into the Wallan man.
The witness said the victim screamed for help before he died inside the vehicle.
The gunman then entered a getaway car and fled the scene, the witness told Sunrise.
The vehicle’s registration records indicate the 2016 Suzuki Swift was not stolen and is currently registered.
It has since been seized and will be forensically examined over the weekend.
No arrests had been made as of Saturday afternoon.
Mounted police were seen patrolling Tenterfield Drive on Saturday morning, as detectives continue to probe the fatal shooting.
The exact circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be determined at this stage, however police do not believe this was a random attack.
