A serial liar used an app to send herself vile text messages purporting to be her “stalker” ex-boyfriend before taking them to police to falsely report he had raped and assaulted her.

Makaela Bacon is now begging not to be jailed for her sickening crimes after she pleaded guilty in the County Court to five counts of perjury.

The court heard on Monday how the 21-year-old made up the allegations against her former boyfriend, Bryce Cadby, because she “wanted him to pay”.

In untruthful statements to police between February 24 and March 27, 2020, the op shop worker said Mr Cadby had put both of his hands around her throat and strangled her, raped her twice, and pushed her down the stairs at his home.

Screenshots shown to police of messages she falsely created using Fake Messaging app on her phone implicated Mr Cadby, with one showing him even admitting to raping her.

“I know what I did was wrong … I raped you,” one message said.

The messages called her a “whore” and “slut” and “no good for anything”.

They also made threats to kill, including: “I’m going to slit your throat and watch you die a slow painful death”.

Another contained a photo of her house and a knife, with the message “murder weapon”.

“Your (sic) not safe … watch out. I’ll have you. No one will love you like I loved you or believe you,” said another message.

When she first reported the incidents, police ordered Mr Cadby stay away from Bacon.

But when Mr Cadby presented himself to the police station, one keen-eyed officer would soon discover it was all a lie.

The court heard the police officer did not think Mr Cadby was capable of committing such acts, as he had an acquired brain injury, walked with a heavy limp and could not move half of his body.

The cop also was suspicious of the messages provided as evidence as they didn’t match the format of a Samsung phone.

Bacon was arrested on April 8, 2020, when she finally caved, saying “Fine, the messages are fake”. She also admitted her former boyfriend had not pushed her down the stairs or choked her.

Despite the offence of perjury carrying a 15-year maximum sentence, defence lawyer Tim Marsh pushed for Bacon to be punished with a Community Correction Order.

He said while there was a level of “sophistication” and “deliberation” to Bacon’s offending, it happened when she was just 18 years old and her mental health had declined.

She had also stopped her regular visits to clinicians.

“She was not on any psychotics or mood stabilisers — she was adrift,” Mr Marsh said.

Bacon will be sentenced on September 13.
