Ferrari driver Robert Marro has a history of crashes

A major crash on Punt Rd was allegedly caused by a Ferrari driver veering into oncoming traffic – and it’s not the first time the driver has crashed one of his luxury vehicles.

A sports car fanatic whose Ferrari veered into oncoming traffic along Punt Rd, causing a horrific multi-vehicle collision, has a history of prangs in high-powered vehicles.

Robert Marro, 54, was allegedly behind the wheel of his 2004 Ferrari on Sunday when he collided head-on with a Nissan Navara about 4.30pm.

The force of the collision lifted the ute, causing it to crush a sedan travelling in the next lane.

But the Herald Sun understands it was not the first time Mr Marro – originally from Croydon but now based in South Yarra – crashed one of his luxury vehicles.

Sources revealed Mr Marro, dubbed “Eggman”, almost totalled a Lamborghini around 2017 after colliding with a pole at speed along Princes Hwy near Windsor.

The single-vehicle collision reportedly occurred in the early hours of the morning, with the vehicle quickly taken to a repair shop “in the country”.

It comes as Victoria Police revealed on Tuesday that Mr Marro was expected to be charged on summons with drive manner dangerous, careless driving and improper use of a motor vehicle.

The incident brought one of Melbourne’s busiest thoroughfares – packed with footy fans leaving the Geelong-Bombers game at the MCG – to a standstill.

Any insurance on the $600,000 high-powered sports car, currently being housed at Luxury Auto Body in Clifton Hill, was expected to be voided as a result of recent dashcam footage.

It’s believed the Ferrari was one of only 852 made.

Witnesses earlier reported seeing Mr Marro among a selection of luxury vehicles travelling at speed along the 40km/h zone of Domain Rd, outside The Botanical Hotel and Gilson.

Others reported seeing the vehicle with personalised registration “SPSP” plates travelling along St Kilda Rd and Chapel St prior to the collision.

Mr Marro was a popular identity among Ferrari convoys who on weekends cruised the streets of inner-city Melbourne, sources added.

But he could soon be back on the road; instead using one of the other exotic cars or motorbikes which he regularly boasted about on social media.

While his online activity fell silent in recent days, earlier posts showed a man unafraid to spruik both his vast fortune and taste for the finer things.

Images posted to his page showed Mr Marrow often dressed in Ferrari-branded clothing, indulging in cigars and wearing a diamond Frank Muller watch.

According to one close friend, Mr Marro only recently added another Ferrari displaying similar personalised registration plates to his extensive collection this past February.

“Owned by a Ferrari king of Melbourne, walking encyclopaedia of the brand, David Attenborough of Ferrari but most importantly a good friend of mine,” Bartosz Polak wrote. Mr Marro did not respond to the Herald Sun’s request for comment.
