Junior policeman Brock Matthews to face trial for child sex offences

A first constable from the state’s western region will face trial after he pleaded not guilty to a series of child sex offences, alleged to have taken place between 2018 and 2020.

A junior cop will face trial on child sex offences.

Brock Matthews, 35, a first constable from the Western Region, appeared via video link in Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where he pleaded not guilty to six counts of sexual assault of a child under 16 and one count of persistent sexual assault of a child under 16.

“Not guilty, your honour,” he said when asked for his plea.

He was ordered to stand trial in the County Court in Melbourne.

Charge sheets allege the offending took place between 2018 and 2020 while he was off-duty.

Mr Matthews was charged in September following an internal Victoria Police investigation.

He is on bail and will appear in the County Court on December 6 for a directions hearing.
