Former Collingwood cheer squad leader Jeffrey “Joffa” Corfe who dodged jail despite being found guilty of child sex abuse has said he is “absolutely” not a danger to the community.

Living in Brisbane, Corfe, 62, was tracked down and spoke publicly for the first time since he was sentenced to a suspended 12 month jail term in the County Court in Melbourne this week.

“I am no danger, believe me, I am no danger to anyone”, he told Channel 7.

He also said “one day” he would talk publicly about his crime, but “until then I’m just going to get on with my life.”

When asked if he had words for his victim, Corfe said “not at the moment”.

Corfe was 44, when he lied about his age while messaging with the teen on MSN messenger in late 2004 and early 2005.

He later met up with the boy at his home and lured him into a dark room and assaulted him.

The incident led Corfe’s victim into a downward spiral of mental health issues.

The court heard the abuse was an “anomaly in an otherwise law abiding life”, but the prosecution argued Corfe knew what he was doing was wrong and had pushed for Corfe to be jailed, with a non-parole period set.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Kerri Judd, KC, is now expected to review the case to determine if an appeal of the sentence will be pursued.

in the short interview, Corfe also revealed he was battling health issues and would be undergoing heart surgery later this year and that he intends to continue living in Brisbane with relatives.
