Jesinta Franklin says her return to the runway after six years reflects the changing face of modelling.
The former Miss Universe Australia has had two children — Tullulah, 3 and Rocky, 1, with husband, Swans superstar Buddy Franklin — since she last walked in a fashion show.
She will feature in the Melbourne Fashion Festival PayPal Pay in 4 closing runway ‘Fashion Illuminated’ on March 11 at the Royal Exhibition Building which showcases diverse Australian designers.
“It feels like a really authentic fit for me because it’s not just a walk down the runway there was a give back aspect as well,’’ Franklin, 31, said.
“I started modelling when I was 17 and won Miss Universe at 18 so it’s been a long time and there’s been so much growth.
“Just the industry is embracing diversity and inclusivity and it gives me so much hope for our kids and generations. People can see themselves on runways, not just six foot size four models. Age diversity and body shapes and sizes and cultural diversity, it’s amazing.”
Franklin said she was also inspired seeing that Megan Gale is set to return to the catwalk in Melbourne.
“It’s such a great sign of the times and the industry as well,’’ she said.
“When I first started out modelling we were told 24, 25, was the max age you could work to in the industry because there was always this expiry date.
“Now to see two women who have children and are in the industry, I know Megan is a bit older, but it’s just a sign of how much growth there’s been. I think it’s great, I’m really excited about it and it’s going to be good.”
