Alleged underworld macho man Jimmey Barkho and a woman have been hit with a suite of new charges.
Barkho, who is already on remand, was slapped with the extra charges in his prison cell just days before he was going to make another bid for bail.
Detectives from the Echo taskforce charged Barkho and his girlfriend as part of Operation Steelers – which has probed the activities of Notorious Crime Family – after searching Greenvale properties on Friday.
A 31-year-old Greenvale woman was charged with obtaining financial advantage by deception, knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime and creating false documents.
She was bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on July 28.
Police will allege the woman had fraudulently purchased a residential property using false information and using the proceeds of crime.
A warrant was also executed in Langdon Way, Greenvale.
It led to charges being laid against Barkho over alleged firearm offences including possessing a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, disposing of a handgun and committing offences while on bail.
Barkho is the subject of a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) which bans him from acquiring, possessing, carrying or using any firearm or any firearm related item such as ammunition.
He is also unable to enter a range of premises including firearm dealers, shooting ranges or firearm clubs.
People subject to an FPO can face significant penalties, including 10 years jail for acquiring, possessing, carrying a firearm or a related item.
Since their introduction in May, 2018, Victoria Police has issues over 1500 FPOs across the state.
Barkho will appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on July 25.
Only last month Barkho was charged with possessing three guns in 2020 and 2021.
Those charges relate to alleged gun offences Barkho has been linked to by DNA and also by a video which allegedly shows him handling a weapon.
Barkho was also charged with “disrupting the good order of a police station” after he allegedly urinated on the floor of Broadmeadows cop shop following his arrest last month.
Barkho has gained a profile in Melbourne’s underbelly as an alleged senior figure of feared gang Notorious Crime Family.
The gang, described as “patriotically Assyrian”, is based in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
Members bear tattoos of machine guns with the letters NCF.
The allegations of a fraudulent property purchase came days after it was revealed the partner of jailed NCF strongman George Marrogi had made a failed attempt to buy a luxury house at Mickleham in March.
Antonietta Mannella paid a deposit on the $2.9 million home but it fell through around the time she and Marrogi were charged with high-level drug trafficking.
The investigation commenced in October, 2020, targeting the syndicate’s access to firearms, large-scale drug importation and unexplained wealth.
Echo Taskforce detectives have made more than 30 arrests relating to the investigation to date.
The probe is ongoing.
