Guns have allegedly been found at the Beaumaris home of a man police suspect may have threatened Melbourne identity Mick Gatto.
Jamal Mohammad, who also goes by the name Jamal Khan, was arrested and interviewed after a series of angry messages purportedly sent on social media.
It states Mr Gatto and his family owe $4 million.
The message goes on to say: “Extreme violence will erupt.”
Another part said: “Justice will be served by Jamal and family soon.”
Mr Gatto previously declined to comment on the friction when contacted by the Herald Sun.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said detectives from the VIPER taskforce arrested two men on September 13.
She said they were detained as part of an investigation into a report of threats.
“A warrant was executed at a Beaumaris property and police located two firearms and ammunition at the address,” the spokeswoman said.
A 60-year-old Beaumaris man and a 42-year-old Beaumaris man were arrested and interviewed, police said.
The spokeswoman said the men were released pending further inquiries and the investigation remains ongoing.
Mr Gatto did not lay a complaint with police and it is unclear how investigators became involved.
One possibility is that Mr Mohammad’s use of public forums alerted them to the situation.
