A man has been charged over the hit-run death of Sunshine West man Aaran Brown.
The driver, a 36-year-old Wyndham Vale man, handed himself into police late Monday night.
He is accused of driving a silver Holden Rodeo which mowed down Brown, 27, on Boundary Rd between William Angliss Drive and Mr Derrimut Road in Derrimut just before 3.50am on Sunday.
The driver also allegedly dumped the car and fled the scene after the crash. It’s unclear whether this was on foot, or whether the man was picked up by another car.
His arrest follows after an emotional plea by Mr Brown’s sister Kaela for the driver to hand himself in.
She described Aaran as a “good and kind-hearted person” who was “so innocent”.
Loved ones are mourning the shocking death of Mr Brown, whose body was found in the middle of the road.
One person on social media wrote: “I am so sorry to hear, he was a good boy”
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the hit-run collision.
It’s understood the ute was not registered and fitted with incorrect number plates.
It was towing a trailer carrying plant material at the time of the collision.
The car was forensically tested by police.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives charged the 36-year-old with six offences, including driving while disqualified and failure to stop.
He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne’s Magistrates’ Court on May 7.
Police are appealing for residents in the area to check their CCTV and dashcam between 3.30am and 3.50am.
Anyone who witnesses the incident or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
