Human remains found in Cape Schanck believed to be those of Maryam Hamka
Police say they hope the discovery of human remains at Cape Schanck will bring some closure to the missing Brunswick woman’s loved ones after an “incredibly difficult” search.

Remains believed to be those of missing Brunswick woman Maryam Hamka have been found on the Mornington Peninsula.
A Victoria Police statement said the remains were found at 10.30am in bush at Cape Schanck. off Rogers Rd and near Patterson Rd.
Ms Hamka was last seen alive on April 10, 2021, in Brunswick.
Police charged Brighton man Toby Loughnane with murder.
He is accused of killing Ms Hamka at his Brighton home on April 11, 2021.
Another man, 26-year-old Oscar Newman, has been charged with helping to clean up the crime scene.
Ms Hamka was reported missing by her family on April 15, 2021.
She had been seen leaving a Woolworths supermarket on Albert St, Brunswick, four days earlier at 5.30pm.
Detective Inspector Dave Dunstan of the Missing Persons Squad said he hoped the discovery of what were believed to be Ms Hamka’s remains brought closure to her loved ones.
“The investigation has been an arduous and long one over the last couple of years, and the efforts of the Missing Persons Squad has resulted in the finding of the remains earlier today,” he said.
“Our thoughts are with Maryam’s family and friends.
“The past two years have been incredibly difficult for them. We hope this will bring some closure to the alleged scenario. Rest In peace.”
Locals near the Cape Schanck scene said they had noticed drones flying the area regularly of late.
They were told the aircraft were up for real estate purposes.
Assistant Commissioner Mick Frewen of Victoria Police crime command said: “Our heartfelt thoughts are with Maryam’s family and friends.
“The past two years have been an incredibly difficult time for them and their grief remains as raw as ever.
“The investigative efforts by the Missing Persons Squad, Crime Command and other members of Victoria Police have been tireless and extraordinary.
“Our members have worked under very difficult and trying conditions to ensure that every avenue of inquiry has been exhausted so we could provide answers to Maryam’s family.”
