Diggers Rest man Anthony Ford has faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court charged with murder and other offences on Monday, following a fatal Point Cook stabbing.

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 35-year-old man allegedly stabbed at Seasons 5 Resort and Spa on Point Cook Rd on Sunday, August 13.

Paramedics, who were called just after 2.30pm tried desperately to save the man but he died from his injuries at the scene.

Mr Ford did not apply for bail, and was remanded to return to court on October 9.

Earlier today homicide detectives and emergency workers found a black backpack during a search of Saltwater Reserve in Point Cook.

A forensic team were called in to analyse if the bag is linked to Sunday’s fatal stabbing.

On Monday SES volunteers joined detectives assisting police in a search not far from where a man was arrested.

The search was quickly moved to Saltwater reserve where SES volunteers searched scrub around the Point Cook Soccer Club, Middleton Drive Kindergarten and Saltwater Tennis Centre.

The search took place at a park with walking track and outdoor gym in the Southshore Gardens Estate.

The estate has signage indicating that it is under constant video surveillance.

Police confirmed the search was in relation to the stabbing but would not comment on if footage from the cameras led them to the area.

Staff at the resort were tight-lipped about yesterday’s events.

Besides the day spa the venue also has a restaurant, accommodation and function areas.

It is believed a fight broke out between two men at the day spa.

On Sunday night, Homicide Squad detectives and SES volunteers scoured bush around the resort in an attempt to find a weapon.

Orange and yellow tarpaulins were hung up to shield the scene of the crime.

The Seasons 5 Resort & Spa remained empty on Sunday night.

Homicide Squad are continuing to investigate what led to the fatal alleged attack.
