A woman who allegedly killed her sister in a horror hit-run crash in Melbourne’s west has been comforted by grieving family at her sibling’s funeral, despite facing criminal charges.

Devastated friends and family, many from Melbourne’s tight-knit South Sudanese community, gathered on Saturday to farewell Anong Luk, 24, also known as Gol, who was last month killed in Sunshine after she was allegedly dragged by a moving car driven by her sister Asyai Luk, 22.

Wearing a T-shirt with Anong’s photograph on it and a black scarf around her head, Asyai, who is facing charges including dangerous driving causing death and is out on bail, fought back tears as she placed a white cloth on her sister’s coffin.

As pallbearers brought out Anong’s coffin from St Catherine of Siena Church in Melton West following an emotional two hour service, Asyai was embraced by friends and family while her mother Aleza Gwit wept.

During the service, mourners sang together while relatives paid tribute to the young woman who had aspirations to become a lawyer.

One woman described Anong as “beautiful inside and out”.

“Always putting others first, she was kind and compassionate,” she said.

Anong was laid to rest in nearby Maddingley General Cemetery, where Asyai held a relative’s hand while her mother sobbed after the casket was lowered into the ground.

On social media, Ms Gwit posted a picture of her eldest daughter captioned: “My heart is bleeding.”

Khamisa Alaat told the Herald Sun her friend had a kind soul and was always respectful.

“She was very lovely, intelligent, friendly, open-minded person,” she said.

“It’s very sad she is no longer with us.”

Melton South Sudanese community leader and lawyer John Garang Kon previously said Anong was a friendly, polite and approachable person.

“We as a community are saddened by the passing of this young woman,” he said.

Anong was killed on November 7 after she was allegedly “kicked out” of a car following a fight with her sister who was behind the wheel.

Police allege she tried to re-enter but Asyai drove off and collided with a white Jeep parked nearby causing Anong’s head to strike a tow bar.

Asyai allegedly drove off but claimed she did not know her sister was injured until she was arrested at her Brookfield home five hours later.

The elder sibling was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious head injuries but later died.

Last month, Asyai was bailed at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court after she was charged with dangerous driving causing death and failure to stop and render assistance.
