Fresh details have emerged about the accused gunman who opened fire on top Hells Angels bikie Peter “Skitzo” Hewat after allegedly snatching a truck from the strongman’s towing business.

Kader Elhouli, 35, can be revealed as the man allegedly behind the attack after he faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for the first time since being charged.

Police allege Mr Elhouli was in possession of an AR15 assault rifle, a WWII Thompson submachine gun and a handgun at the time he confronted Hewat on a suburban street on Melbourne’s outer fringe, charge sheets obtained by the Herald Sun reveal.

Three people, including Mr Elhouli, are accused of breaking into Hewat’s heavy haulage business hours earlier on July 9 and taking off with two Kenworth trucks.

The rigs, owned by Hewat Holdings, were reportedly worth almost $1m.

But motion sensors at the yard alerted management of the Craigieburn business, Heavy Haulage Towing, to the theft.

Hewat chased one of the trucks to a street in Mickleham, more than 10km away from his business, by tracking the vehicle through GPS technology.

When he caught up to the truck on Blackmore Rd, near Rosehill Boulevard, Mr Elhouli allegedly fired two shots at Hewat with the handgun before driving off.

Hewat escaped uninjured but the suspected shooter, who police say was on bail at the time, was arrested in Box Hill less than 12 hours later by officers from the special operations group.

The second truck was located in Roxburgh Park and intercepted by police who also arrested a Craigieburn woman and Meadow Heights man, Joseph Khaled.

Mr Elhouli’s home in Glenroy was raided the following day where police allegedly uncovered a cache of weapons, including the AR15 assault rifle, the WWII Thompson submachine gun, the handgun, a knuckle duster and loads of cartridge ammunition.

This was despite Mr Elhouli being subject to a firearm prohibition order, which prohibits him from acquiring, possessing or carrying a firearm.

Officers also allegedly found lock pick gun, pick pieces and an “explosive substance” namely detonation cords.

He faces 60 charges including theft of a motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering life, using a firearm in a public place, using a firearm in a dangerous manner and possessing a firearm.

Mr Elhouli was additionally charged with handling stolen goods after a Dell laptop addressed to the “Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools” was discovered.

He has also been accused of trafficking methylamphetamine and 1,4-Butanediol.

Mr Elhouli’s defence lawyer told Magistrate Belinda Franjic the charges were “contested”, indicating his client would fight the allegations at a hearing next year.

The court heard Mr Khaled will liaise with his defence lawyer before deciding whether he joins the hearing.

Mr Khaled is understood to be charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

Hewat has had a long association with the Hells Angels East County chapter where he has served as sergeant-at-arms.

Mr Elhouli will return to court for a contested hearing on March 4.
