A Frankston man who knifed his housemate to death during an ice-fuelled rage was on bail for allegedly stabbing a different housemate in the chest, a court has heard.

Kevin Seymour, 55, fronted the Supreme Court on Monday after he pleaded guilty in November to the manslaughter of Kristen Daniels, 52, at their Petrie St share house in Melbourne’s southeast.

Crown prosecutor Catherine Parkes told the court Seymour was smoking meth with a mate inside his bedroom in the early hours of August 4, 2021, when Mr Daniels yelled at the pair through the wall to “shut the f--k up”.

Seymour, who was playing with a pocket knife at the time, shouted back “c’mon then”.

Mr Daniels, according to witnesses, then quickly exited his bedroom and began to bash on Seymour’s door, demanding he open it.

The court heard Seymour’s friend, who was in the bedroom with him, watched the knife-wielding killer leap up from his seat and swing open the door before stabbing Mr Daniels once in the chest.

“Kevin only had the door open for a matter of seconds (before) he closed it again, then there was silence,” the friend told police.

According to him, Seymour then used wet wipes to clean the blade of the knife.

The friend then said to Seymour: “Kev, you stabbed him in the heart.”

Seymour replied: “No I didn’t. No I didn’t. I stabbed him in the stomach area.”

Before adding: “Did you see how fast I did it?”

One of the other housemates ran to Mr Daniels’ aid, but he died at the scene from a loss of blood.

Ms Parkes said the 52-year-old was a “much-loved” member of his family and had worked throughout his life in the horse racing industry.

The Herald Sun understands he was employed for a period of time by trainer Peter Moody.

Before Seymour fled the premises with his friend, he hid the knife near the back door, Ms Parkes said.

He was arrested in Frankston later that day and charged with murder.

But a week before his trial was due to start, the prosecution accepted his offer to plead guilty to manslaughter.

Ms Parkes told the court Seymour was on bail when he killed Mr Daniels, having allegedly stabbed a housemate at a boarding house in Doveton on April 30, 2021.

He was charged months later on June 17 with conduct endangering life, conduct endangering persons, recklessly causing injury and unlawful assault.

He is expected to front the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court in relation to these charges later this year.

The court heard Seymour, who appeared via video link from prison, was diagnosed with schizophrenia in his early 20s.

Defence lawyer Emily Clark said Seymour was previously sentenced to a term of imprisonment after stabbing his mother in 2004 while experiencing psychotic delusions.

Later in the hearing, Ms Clark told Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth she had to take into account the fact Seymour did not hunt down Mr Daniels by entering his bedroom and stabbing him.

But Justice Hollingworth said it could not be denied that Seymour was the “aggressor”.

“The deceased wasn’t presenting any threat,” she said.

Ms Clark argued her client should be sentenced to a community corrections order and not only a term of imprisonment in a bid to maximise his prospects of rehabilitation.

The plea hearing will continue on Friday.

Justice Hollingworth will then sentence him at a later date.
