Police have charged three people after an alleged abduction and stabbing in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Police were alerted by a car hire company that their Hyundai van had been stolen from Mitchell St in Northcote about 9.40pm on Sunday.

Police found the vehicle and followed it before a man was released from the car at the intersection of High and Bell streets.

The victim, an 18-year-old Fitzroy man, suffered facial injuries.

He was rushed to hospital with non life-threatening injuries, believed to be stab wounds.

Police deployed stop sticks on Barrow St in Preston before the van crashed into a parked car on Bischoff St.

Four offenders fled the vehicle before police arrested two males and two females a short time later.

Several weapons were also found inside the vehicle.

A 20-year-old Northcote man was charged with theft of motor vehicle and was bailed to appear at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on February 12.

A boy, 17, was charged with theft of motor vehicle, committing an indictable offence while on bail, failing to stop on police direction, failing to stop at a collision and unlicensed driving.

He was due to face a children’s court on Monday.

Dakota Austin, 21, faced Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possessing methylamphetamine and committing an indictable offence on bail.

The Preston woman was granted bail and ordered to return to the Heidelberg court on October 12.

A 16-year-old girl was arrested and released pending further inquiries.
