Eastern Freeway Porsche driver Richard Pusey lectured before walking free from jail

Richard Pusey paid an odd tribute to Oprah as he walked free from jail in a “fake news” mask after his lawyer said he was “very concerned” for his safety.

Richard Pusey leaves prison

A remorseless Richard Pusey wore a “fake news” face mask and a Sheik headdress as he was cut loose from prison for a series of “repugnant” crimes.

The disgraced millionaire – notorious for filming dead and dying officers in the Eastern Freeway crash in April last year – said nothing as he walked free from the Metropolitan Remand Centre in Ravenhall about 3.20pm on Wednesday.

Donning a baggy black jumper with the words “Get Me Oprah” emblazoned across the chest, Pusey, 43, shielded his face with the makeshift Arabian-style headpiece and mask, as well as sunglasses as he jumped into a waiting taxi.

His freedom came just six hours after he was sentenced in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to 120 days of time already served over six incidents unrelated to the Eastern Fwy truck collision in which Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King and constables Glen Humphris and Josh Prestney were killed.

He completed his 10-month jail term relating to speeding and filming the aftermath of the deadly crash in April.

But he remained behind bars awaiting the outcome of the outstanding offences, and on Monday, pleaded guilty to 11 charges, including unlawful assault, using a carriage service to menace, theft and criminal damage.

Among his latest crimes was an assault on his wife where he dragged her up the stairwell before stopping where he had a noose tied on the rafters of their Fitzroy home on December 27.

The other incidents included threatening communications with police and a bank worker, two road rage incidents and smashing a carton of beer when asked to leave a bottle shop he had been banned from.

Magistrate Hayley Bate said Pusey had no genuine remorse, “guarded” prospects of rehabilitation and criminal history displaying “a clear pattern of behaviour”.

“He is a man who, in a range of settings, seeks to deliberately interfere with the sense of safety of those who encounter him,” she said.

Ms Bate labelled Pusey’s interactions with police leading up to the assault on his wife as “repugnant and designed clearly to antagonise and threaten police”.

Pusey had sent texts to the phone of a police sergeant calling him a “piece of shit” and declaring “I’ll kill everyone then” and “I will hang person”.

She said Pusey’s wife would have been “terrified” as she “leaned back, pulled her arm back and attempted to plant her feet the whole way up the two flights of stairs whilst being overpowered”.
